    • Wartime comes back to Brooklands
      The 1940s Relived – at Brooklands this Saturday – will pay tribute to the men, women and machines that defeated Nazi Germany as the race track and aerodrome became key to the allied war effort. The war years meant aircraft manufacturers Vickers-Armstrong and Hawker took exclusive control of the site and, with 14,000 workers to call on, production of aircraft went into overdrive. By the end of the war Brooklands had produced 2515 Wellington Bombers, 842 Vickers Warwicks and more than 3000 of Britain’s second great fighter – the Hawker Hurricane. read more
    • Rare classics gather for St Mawes' Festival
      The second annual St Mawes Classic Car Festival brought a host of rare machinery to the Cornish fishing village. The event spanned over four days from 7 May and this year’s theme took in the best of Cornish art, sculpture and gardens with a visit to the Leach Pottery and Hepworth Museum in St Ives followed by a challenging drive to lunch at the Gunards Head. read more

      A star-studded debate provided a fascinating sideshow at this year's Grand Prix de Monaco Historique. Following the success of a pilot at Goodwood last year, Credit Suisse held its first Historic Racing Forum in front of a capacity crowd. And it was a belter with C&SC's Alain de Cadenet and Simon Taylor joining Jochen Mass, Emanuele Pirro and Duncan Dayton to discuss the thorny issue of whether historic racing is better than F1. read more
    • Vintage Bentleys embark on near 2000-mile epic
    • Feast of Ferraris gathers in Belfast
      More than 20 classic and modern Ferraris met at the slipways of Titanic Belfast last weekend. The group was made up of cars from the Ireland and Scotland Ferrari Owners’ Clubs which then headed north to the Giant’s Causeway and a drive along the Antrim Coast Road. Alan Tyndall from the Irish Ferrari Owners’ Club said: "We’re delighted to welcome our friends from Scotland and to see how many of our own club members have supported this event." read more
    • Hill’s turbine Indy car up for grabs
      A revolutionary four-wheel-drive and turbine-powered Lotus driven by Graham Hill in 1968’s Indy 500 will go under the hammer at Mecum’s sale in Indianapolis, USA, on 17 August. The Type 56/3 Lotus was built by Lotus-team boss Colin Chapman following a commission from STP’s Andy Granatelli. Chapman’s outfit created a car powered by a Pratt & Whitney turbine engine that put its power through a Ferguson four-wheel-drive system. read more
    • Five-day feeding frenzy gets underway at Mecum
      Mecum’s Spring Sale got off at a frenetic pace yesterday (15 May) in Indianapolis, USA, where the top-selling lot was a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible. The immaculate Chevy was fitted with a 265cu in, 225hp V8, 1956-unique wire wheel covers, a Wonderbar radio and a Kleenex dispenser. It sold for $68,500. read more
    • Alfa Romeo celebrates its heritage
      Four stunning Alfa Romeos spanning 1927-’57 will be on show on this year’s Mille Miglia retrospective – from 16-20 May – in celebration of the firm’s record-breaking 11 wins at the world-famous race. The 6C-1500 Super Sport (main picture) took Alfa’s first victory on the roads between Brescia and Rome in the hands of Giuseppe Campari and Giulio Ramponi in 1928. The previous year it won at Modena with Enzo Ferrari and Ramponi at the helm. read more
    • Brazil celebrates the beautiful Karmann
      More than 20 Karmann-Ghias from across Brazil amassed in Pocos de Caldas on 5 May to celebrate the car’s 50th anniversary. The meet was organised by the Karmann Ghia Clube de Belo and attracted around 100 fans from five states bringing with them every type of Ghia ever produced, including the Type 14 coupé and convertible, the TC and the German Type 34. read more
